Detective Says He's Hot On 35 Year Old Case

Last updated on Saturday, January 5, 2008

(EVANSVILLE)- An Evansville police detective believes he knows who killed a young teacher 35 years ago this month.

Detective Tony Mayhew says he interviewed the suspect he says killed 26-year old Lockyear Business College teacher Ann Kline. Her body was found in the basement of the old Evansville courthouse. She had been stabbed 19 times.

Mayhew says he received a tip from an anonymous caller. He then headed to Texas to interview the suspect. He says he thinks he now has enough evidence to get an indictment in the case.

He won't reveal the name of the suspect, but did confirm he or she is an Evansville native.
