Convicted Murderer Gets His Day In Court

Last updated on Tuesday, January 15, 2008

(HAMMMOND) - A federal judge has ruled that a man convicted in a 1998 murder in Gary must be released unless the Indiana Court of Appeals allows him to file a direct appeal.

Judge Philip Simon says Jermaine Dodd has consistently sought an appeal, but his case has never been reviewed by the state court of appeals.

The judge ordered the Indiana Court of Appeals to accept Dodd's request for an appeal within 60 days.
