(GREENWOOD) - An Indiana cemetery owner is charged with taking more than 23 million dollars from a trust fund meant for long-term graveyard maintenance.
Indiana Secretary of State Todd Rokita says 39-year-old Robert Nelms of Greenwood and his wife face felony charges of theft, fraudulent or deceitful acts and illegally taking money from a perpetual care fund.
Nelms is president and chief executive officer of the Indianapolis-based Memory Gardens Management, which has cemeteries or funeral homes across Indiana.
The charges were filed in Marion Superior Court. Nelms disputed similar allegations last month that he misused more than four million dollars in trust fund money in Michigan.
