Carter Calls For Sex Offenders Social Networking Ban

Last updated on Saturday, January 5, 2008

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Attorney General Steve Carter wants to ban convicted sex offenders from social networking sites like Myspace.

Indiana would be the fifth state to pass such a ban. Carter's proposing making it a felony for sex offenders to use networking sites, chatrooms or instant messaging.

Violators could receive up to three years in prison. If they actually made contact with a child, they could get as much as eight years.

Carter says at least two legislators will offer versions of the bill.
