Woman Wants 1992 Guilty Plea Thrown Out

Last updated on Friday, December 7, 2007

(MADISON) - One of the four women convicted in the 1992 torture-slaying of a 12-year-old New Albany girl wants her guilty plea thrown out.

Melinda Loveless, who was 16 at the time, says she was under duress when she agreed to the plea deal. Her lawyer also says she did not get proper counsel.

Loveless told Jefferson Circuit Judge Ted Todd that she didn't remember most of the legal proceedings before she signed the plea deal that sent her to prison for 60 years.

However, she said she was told she would get a death sentence if she did not sign the plea agreement.
