Troopers Say Truck Driver Found With Meth, Pot

Last updated on Friday, December 14, 2007

(ST CROIX) - Indiana State Troopers arrested a North Carolina truck driver on drug charges in Saint Croix.

40-year-old Kenneth Michael Perry of Graham, North Carolina was stopped on his way taking tens of thousands of pounds of steel casts from Illinois to North Carolina for speeding near the Old-37 interchange in Saint Croix.

When the trooper approached the semi tractor and opened the door, he allegedly smelled burnt marijuana.

The trooper then searched the cab of the truck and reportedly came up with a small amount of marijuana, crystal meth and drug paraphernalia.

Sergeant Kirby Stailey, the trooper who made the stop, said it was unfortunate that a truck driver in a vehicle weighing around 80,000 pounds would be in possession of illegal drugs.

Perry stands charged with a felony count of meth possession as well as lesser charges of marijuana and paraphernalia possession.
