(UNDATED) - If it's over the hills, through the woods and to grandmas house in Pennsylvania, Iowa or anywhere else you go, better make sure when you hit the road you're sober and buckled in.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is saying more than 1,200 law enforcement agencies across America are putting the hammer down on drunk drivers, and they don't mean maybe.

The NHTSA says last December nationwide, almost 1,100 people were killed in alcohol related accidents in the month of December alone. Among those participating agencies, of course, will be the Indiana State Police.

Sergeant Rich Meyers of the state police says around the last week and a half of 2006, 27 people were killed on Indiana roadways.

That is more than 2 people per day. So not only will state troopers be hunting for drunks, they will also be hunting for tailgaters, aggressive drivers, speeders and anyone else making holiday travel less safe.

So, in the end, when you head out to visit friends and family tomorrow, Saturday or any other day for the holidays, be safe, get plenty of rest, buckle up and let someone else know your route of travel, just in case you get stuck in a snow storm or anything else happens that sticks you in the middle of nowhere without a means to get out.
