Retired Judge Wins Salary Case

Last updated on Tuesday, December 4, 2007

(MARION) - Grant County must pay a retired judge $5,000 in back pay after another judge ruled officials illegally reduced his salary.

Grant County Council President Mike Scott says they'll likely would appeal.

Retired Grant Circuit Judge Thomas Hunt sued the county council, commissioners and auditor in November 2005, arguing that they had illegally cut his salary.

The state constitution says officials can't reduce a judge's pay while he's in office.

A special judge from Blackford County ruled in Hunt's favor last month.
