(EDWARDSPORT) - Opponents of a proposed coal-gasification plant in Edwardsport say they’ll sue to block the plant from coming online.
An air-quality panel in the Department of Environmental Management still must approve the Duke Energy plant.
Opponents will mount a letter-writing campaign, but Dave Menzer with the Citizens Action Coalition says it's a longshot. He says they'll ask a judge to overturn approval from utility regulators.
Opponents contend the plant would contribute to global warming by pumping carbon dioxide into the air. Other environmental groups have endorsed the plant because of its expected reductions in traditional pollutants such as sulfur and mercury.
