National Guard Soldiers Headed To Iraq

Last updated on Saturday, December 15, 2007

(EDINBURGH) - Hoosier National Guard troops from all over the state are bound for Iraq.

Their tours of duty are now underway and will last a year. Hundreds of soldiers are reporting to Camp Atterbury and will head to Fort Stewart in Georgia. From there, they'll leave for Iraq.

Lieutenant Colonel Deedra Thombleson says it's part of the state's largest National Guard deployment since World War II.

While those soldiers are leaving, others are returning home. The 638th intelligence battalion out of Lafayette returns today.
