Man Uses Fake Checks To Steal Cars

Last updated on Thursday, December 13, 2007

(GARY) - State police are looking for more victims of a Gary man charged with writing phony checks to buy used cars advertised online.

Four Northwest Indiana residents say they found out only after trying to cash Brandon Moody's checks that moody had borrowed other people's names and personal information.

State police say a search of Moody's home turned up a list of more bogus checks and more stolen identities. They aren't sure what he did with the vehicles.

Authorities say they suspect Moody may have scammed as many as 20 vehicle sellers in Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Ohio.
