(UNDATED) - An ongoing scheme involving jury service appears to have hit Indiana.

Laura Briggs, clerk of the United District Court for the Southern District of Indiana, says Hoosiers need to be aware that individuals identifying themselves as U.S. Court employees have been phoning people and advising them that they failed to report for jury duty. These scam artists then ask to verify personal information such as names, addresses and social security numbers.

If the request is refused, citizens are told that they will be fined or arrested.

Briggs says the judicial system does not contact people by phone and ask for such personal information.

2 individuals recently called the court and claimed to have been victimized by this scheme.
