(INDIANAPOLIS) - The Indiana Department of Natural Resources will allow hunters to kill Canada geese in February to try to control the bird's population.

The experimental hunting season will run Feb. 1-15. The DNR's goal is to have 80,000 geese in urban areas. They reportedly selected February because geese tend to move at that time from urban areas to farm fields, where they feed.

Hunters will be limited to five geese per day in February.

The DNR also has a hunting season for Canada geese in September.
