(INDIANAPOLIS) - The draining and clean-up of the White River Canal in Downtown Indianapolis is underway.
The plan is to drain the water out next week and then suck the algae out using a huge vacuum.
Angie Nussmeyer with the Department of Metropolitan Development says the process will take about three months and should be wrapped up sometime in January.
Fish dwelling in the canal are being moved to the White River. Nussmeyer says fish will not be returning to the canal. They were never supposed to be there in the first place, but geese and ducks who flocked to the canal carry fish eggs in their feathers.
