(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indianapolis-based Wellpoint is launching the state health index.
It's a program that analyzes public health data from 14 states, including Indiana, to identify major health issues.
The health benefits company says it is working with community and state leaders to develop new health programs. The index shows that Indiana falls near the bottom in several key categories.
The state ranks last of all states when it comes to the cigarette smoking rate.
Indiana's total health ranking is 43rd out of all 50 states.
