New Mayors And Old Mayors Win Races Throughout State

(UNDATED) - Terre Haute elected its first Republican mayor in 40 years, giving Duke Bennett the victory over Democratic incumbent Kevin Burke.

Big new factories in Greensburg and Anderson couldn't save those cities' mayors. Anderson Mayor Kevin S. Smith lost his job to Democrat Kris Ockomon, while in Greensburg, Republican Gary Herbert won a landslide over incumbent Frank Manus.

Greenfield Mayor Rodney Fleming, who changed his mind about running for reelection after no other democrat filed, got sent into retirement after all, losing to Republican Brad Dereamer.

Fort Wayne's Tom Henry easily kept the mayor's office in Democratic hands after Republican Matt Kelty was charged with filing a false campaign finance report.

Stephen Luecke cruised to another term in South Bend, as did fellow Democrat Jonathan Weinzapfel in Evansville.

Jim Mansfield appears to have moved Muncie back into the Democrats' column -- with a nine-vote win over Sharon McShurley that's likely to be recounted.
