(INDIANAPOLIS) - An Indianapolis man is in custody after confronting police with a live pipe bomb Friday.
IMPD responded to 38 Myron Avenue to check the welfare of a potential suicidal person. When they arrived, they confronted Tracy Trimble, 34. An officer noticed an object under Trimble's shirt and recognized it as a pipe bomb.
Trimble was told to pull up his shirt but he ran back into the house, then returned and pulled up his shirt to show officers there was nothing under his shirt. When Trimble refused to comply with officers' instructions, he was tazed and taken to Wishard Hospital for psychiatric evaluation.
Trimble's wife gave officers permission to go in the house and they found a live pipe bomb and other explosive devices. Explosives technicians from IMPD disposed of the material.
Trimble has been charged with possession of an explosive device.
Police say they believe Trimble was under the influence of crack cocaine. He's wanted on a warrant from Hancock County for a parole violation.
