(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Department of Correction Commissioner J. David Donahue will take a leave from his job next month to assist the Army in a review of its detainee operations.

The department says Donahue will be traveling overseas throughout December and will resume his duties overseeing the state's prison system when he returns in early January.

Gov. Mitch Daniels received the Army's request last week and approved Donahue's leave. Donahue was the Deputy Commissioner for the Kentucky Department of Corrections when he was appointed by Daniels in 2005.

Donahue previously was a prison warden and was chief operating officer for the U.S. Corrections Corp. in Louisville, Ky.
