(MICHIGAN CITY) - A man convicted of fatally shooting a state trooper during a traffic stop in 1993 was founded dead in his death row cell Saturday, 10 months after being spared execution.

Prison officials say an Indiana state prison guard found 60-year-old Norman Timberlake unresponsive during a head count shortly after midnight. Attempts to revive him failed.

Officials say Timberlake appeared to die from natural causes, and an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.

Timberlake was convicted of fatally shooting Indiana State Police Master Trooper Michael Greene during a 1993 traffic stop in Indianapolis.

Timberlake was set to die by chemical injection last Jan. 19, but the Indiana Supreme Court blocked the execution because his case might be affected by a similar one under review by the U.S. Supreme Court.
