(BROWNSTOWN) - A New Albany woman is facing felony drunk-driving charges in Jackson County for driving a school bus with a blood alcohol content more than twice the legal limit.
61-year-old Sylvia Cooke was driving a group of New Albany High School cheerleaders back from a football game last year when she was pulled over for driving impaired, and allegedly tested a BAC level of 0.19, the legal limit being 0.08.
Cooke was originally charged with one Class-D felony and a Class-A misdemeanor, however, new prosecutor Richard Poynter, who took office after the original filing, got the misdemeanor charge upgraded to a felony after adding that Cooke allegedly put others in danger.
Cooke's trial will begin November 14th.
