The Gipper's Body Exhumed For DNA Testing

Last updated on Thursday, October 11, 2007

(LAURIUM, MICH.) - The Gipper’s grave has been dug up.

A nephew of Notre Dame football legend George Gipp approved exhuming his body from a Michigan cemetery for DNA testing, in connection with an upcoming biography.

Two cousins who object to opening the grave say they're considering legal action.

Gipp held rushing records at Notre Dame for half a century, but is best known for his untimely death, and for Coach Knute Rockne's halftime speech rallying the Irish to "win one for the Gipper."
