(INDIANAPOLIS) - No more using city and county cars for personal use.

The Indianapolis City/County Council unanimously approved a resolution Monday night limiting who can and cannot take home cars from the fleet.

Democratic City/County Councilman Rozelle Boyd is hailing this as a money-saving measure. The city estimates more than $6 million in savings can come from making the change over the next couple years.

Republican council members supported the measure but not without concerns.

Councilman Scott Schneider asked why this was not simply an executive order by Mayor Bart Peterson.

The changes in the ordinance do not include police.

The resolution also calls for employees to receive mileage reimbursements for using their personal vehicles for business.
