Jury Duty Numbers Rise After New Contempt Law Takes Effect

Last updated on Wednesday, October 24, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS) - More people than usual showed up for jury duty Monday at the Marion County Courthouse in Downtown Indianapolis.

The county announced Friday that it would crack down on people who skip jury duty. Last week, at least two trials had to be delayed because not enough prospective jurors showed up.

Starting Tuesday, people who fail to appear for jury duty twice could be held in contempt of court and face penalties such as community service.
