(INDIANAPOLIS) - IndyGo riders are doing a double take at the downtown bus shelters -- each one has been filled with red rose petals.

It's part of a public art exhibition by local artist Audrey Barcio. She and her assistants are gluing freeze-dried rose petals on the glass windows of 11 bus shelters on the downtown loop.

Barcio, a graduate of the Herron School of Art and Design at IUPUI says she first got the idea while studying in France. There she filled a phone booth with fresh rose petals, and the reaction was so positive, she decided to do something similar when she returned to her hometown.

Barcio and a dozen assistants spent several hours Sunday night putting up all those rose petals.

The art will stay for one week, when IndyGo employees will turn the hoses on the petals and water-soluable glue.

Barcio says since the petals are bio-degradable, any that escape collection will gradually break down in the environment.
