(SANTA CLAUS) - Indiana state police shut down a Santa Claus meth lab yesterday after being led there by a tip.
State police Jasper says they received information regarding an active methamphetamine lab being run on north SR-162 in Santa Claus, and when they arrived near the property, noticed a strong smell of ether coming from the residence.
Troopers located a woman named Alexandra Knies at the residence who told troopers the lab was run by a Matthew J. Scales.
Scales was at work at Jasper Rubber, where police arrived and took the man into custody without incident.
Clandestine meth production is extremely dangerous since it uses dangerous substances such as metallic sodium and lithium which can literally explode when placed in water, anhydrous ammonia which is highly caustic and reacts violently with the sodium and lithium, and production can also produce phosphine gas which is extremely toxic when inhaled.
