(WEST LAFAYETTE) - As online criminals get more sophisticated, Indiana State Police investigators are too.
Detectives are using a motorhome as a mobile cyber lab--it's decked out with all the tools they need to do more in the field. Detective Tim Keller says Purdue University used a federal grant to develop it.
Child predators, homicides, kidnapping, fraud--those are the type of cases bringing this vehicle out of the garage. It's been in use two years--but because it's been so successful, it will soon have an international award to hang around its rearview mirror. It is receiving the Excellence In Technology Award in December in New Orleans from the International Associations of Chiefs of Police.
Dr. Mark Rogers--with Purdue University--says Purdue helped develop an investigative protocol and software applications to allow investigators to very quickly go through a computer system in a forensically sound manner to ensure evidence is admissible in a court of law.
