Plainfield Prison Shares Land For Youth Facilities

Last updated on Tuesday, August 28, 2007

(PLAINFIELD) - Indiana’s prison system has handed over 50 acres of land next door to its Plainfield facility to the town, for use as a youth sports park.

Plainfield asked for and got permission when Governor Mitch Daniels took office to use the land as a park. Now the Department of Correction has signed a 30-year agreement giving the town and the Plainfield Optimists Club control of the land. The town plans to build soccer, football and baseball fields on the land.

Instead of lease payments, Plainfield will take care of various construction projects for the Department of Correction, including a new access road and repairs to a retaining wall at the edge of the Hillside Prison property.
