Murder Case Solved After 22 Years

Last updated on Sunday, August 5, 2007

(INDIANAPOLIS) - An arrest has been made in a 22 year old murder case.

Indianapolis Metro Police say 48 year old Jimmy Atteberry raped and murdered Lisa Lightfoot back in 1985.

The cold case unit was working with biological evidence taken from the scene all those years ago, including DNA evidence. Three weeks ago, a "cold hit" came in with Atteberry's DNA.

Atteberry was serving a prison sentence in Missouri for another rape conviction, but had recently moved over to work release.

Lightfoot disappeared in September of 1985. Her body was found near railroad tracks downtown.
