Indy Rapid Transit System Under Discussion

Last updated on Wednesday, August 22, 2007

(FISHERS) - While it may be a decade into the future, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Planning Organization is inching closer to a plan for regional rapid transit.

A meeting on the idea was held Tuesday night in Fishers. A handful of people turned out to hear about the plan. Right now, Amy Inman with the MPO says they're still in the investigative phase, but that should wrap up sometime this fall or winter. Inman says, with people facing commutes of more than an hour between Downtown and Hamilton County, rapid transit is something that must happen as quickly as possible.

Inman says two-thirds of the drive commuters face in the area is congested and something needs to be done to alleviate that and quickly.

Another meeting on the issue is scheduled for tonight.
