(PLAINFIELD) - Another con artist has struck claiming to be a Duke Energy employee.
Officials at Duke Energy say a man claiming to work for the company approached a homeowner offering a home energy audit. He was accompanied by another man in a black, 4-door car. While one man talked with the resident, the other entered the home and stole some cash. Another similar incident occurred a few weeks earlier.
Duke Energy customer relations manager Rick Burger says if someone comes to your door claiming to do energy efficiency or utility work, be sure to ask for company identification. He says they always schedule in advance with the customer before any audits are done.
Burger says if there is any doubt, you can call Duke Energy for proof.
