Deputy Shootings Called An Ambush

Last updated on Wednesday, June 20, 2007

(GEORGETOWN) - Floyd County authorities describe the shootings of two sheriff’s deputies as an ambush.

Authorities say 15-year-old Tyler Dumstorf's mother had called police over a confrontation with the boy. Officials say Dumstorf used his father's M-1 rifle to open fire on deputies Frank Denzinger and Joel White from an upstairs window.

Denzinger was killed, while white has been upgraded to serious condition.

A police robot found Dumstorf's body in an upstairs room. Police say he killed himself after the shootings.

Floyd County Prosecutor Keith Henderson says Dumstorf made a final posting to his myspace page, reading, "I just killed two cops -- goodbye."
