Voluntary Manslaughter Charge Upturned By State Court

Last updated on Wednesday, May 30, 2007

(STATEHOUSE) - The Indiana Court of Appeals has reversed a Pendleton Correctional Facility inmate’s voluntary manslaughter conviction.

Ralph Barnett was sentenced to 30 additional years in prison in March 2006 for stabbing to death fellow inmate 29-year-old Ricky Combs in January 1993.

The court stated that the Madison County Prosecutor's office erred in waiting 12 years after the crime to file a murder charge against Barnett, despite knowing he was a likely suspect.
