(NEW HAVEN) - Parents upset over the censorship of a school newspaper in Allen County were themselves censored Tuesday night when they attended a school board meeting intending to voice their displeasure.
The parents arrived to offer support for journalism teacher Amy Sorrell, who's quarreled with Woodlan High School administrators over an opinion column printed in the school's newspaper, The Tomahawk.
Board President Stephen Terry told crowd members they could not speak because it might taint the board if it heard a future appeal in Sorrell's case.
Sorrell allowed an op-ed piece questioning people who criticize homosexuality and was told by Principal Ed Yoder that he'd be signing off on all future editions of the paper.
Sorrell was placed on paid leave as her case is decided.
