(INDIANAPOLIS) - The FBI has announced it will be moving its Indianapolis office from downtown to the northeast side.

Special agent in charge Keith Lourdeau says it has been the FBI's plan to move all offices to stand alone facilities for better security for its employees and to remove a potential terrorist target.

The 38-million dollar project will be built with private funds and then leased to the FBI for 15 years. Lourdeau says the three buildings will be set back at least 100 feet from the street and will contain a state-of-the-art operations center.

Right now people are spread out in various offices in the current location in the Minton Capehart building downtown.

The new building should be ready for occupancy by late next year.
