(EVANSVILLE) - Clean up—or pay up. That’s what Evansville residents violating the city’s trash ordinance are being told.
Starting next week, alleged violators will begin receiving pink slip warnings from neighborhood associations, crime-prevention officers and inspectors. Director Of Metropolitan Planning Gregg Lamar hopes the warnings will encourage residents to throw out large garbage during the city's spring heavy trash program.
Residents who fail to clean up their property will be summoned to a hearing with neighborhood inspection services and could face fines ranging between 25 to one-hundred dollars.
Neighborhood Inspection Services Coordinator Greg Bryant says the city has become increasingly littered with old mattresses, furniture, and other large items.
Since May, 396 residents have appeared in hearings for violating the city's trash ordinance.
