Text Message Results In Jail Time

Last updated on Tuesday, February 6, 2007

(HUNTINGBURG) - An argument that began with insulting text messages has ended with one man in jail after crashing his car into a parked police car.

Huntingburg police say after trading nasty messages, 31-year-old Shawn Holmes and two brothers agreed to duke it out at a Huntingburg park. When they got there, police say Holmes pulled a shotgun, and one of the brothers tried to grab it away from him. Authorities say Holmes drove away.

One of the brothers was injured when he tried to hold onto the departing car. Holmes is charged with criminal recklessness and DUI, plus failure to stop after an accident, which occurred when everyone involved drove to the police station and Holmes allegedly plowed into a squad car.
