(STATEHOUSE) - Hoosiers will soon be able to track the location of criminals in the state from the safety of their personal computer.

A grant of more than a million dollars will allow the state to put in place the statewide automated victim information notification, or SAVIN, network.

Twenty-five other states currently use the computer software to allow citizens to track the whereabouts of anyone convicted of a crime.

Department of Correction Commissioner David Donahue says users will be able to create a pin number to log in to the system and can have the system e-mail or call them with updates on a specific person.
