Finding Meth Labs Decline In Indiana

Last updated on Monday, January 29, 2007

(UNDATED) - Indiana State Police are reporting a drop in the number of methamphetamine labs found in Indiana.

Officials say this is due to changes in state law restricting access to cold medicine. Police busted more than 1,500 labs in 2004. In 2006 that number was down to 993.

Also aiding in the decline is increased security on the part of farmers. Hoosier farmers are now locking up their fertilizers, which had been stolen and used to make meth. The general assembly is now considering a registry of meth offenders.
