E-85 To Become 100%

Last updated on Tuesday, May 23, 2006

(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Senator Evan Bayh has brought his push for ethanol tax incentives to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Starting next year, Indycars will run on ethanol. They're on a ten-percent ethanol blend this year.

Twenty-four senators, including Indiana's other senator Richard Lugar, are Co-sponsors of Bayh's bill to encourage consumer use of 85% ethanol fuel. E-85 gets just three-quarters the mileage of regular gas.

Bayh's bill includes research and development money to improve that, and says E-85 has other advantages. Bayh would give carmakers tax credits for the costs of meeting his proposed requirement to make half their cars hybrids or E-85-compatible.
