Rokita To Hear Balloting Problems

Last updated on Thursday, April 13, 2006

(STATEHOUSE) - Balloting problems for May’s primary election may extend outside of central Indiana.

Secretary of State Todd Rokita says he plans to conduct hearings to determine how many counties are having issues with two companies -- Microvote and ESS.

Rokita says a new state law may allow his office to levy a $300,000 fine in each county where elections have been botched -- either because ballots have been misprinted or machines designed to read those ballots cannot.
