IFB Says Growing Season To Be Harsh

Last updated on Tuesday, February 28, 2006

UNDATED—The Indiana Farm Bureau is predicting a harsh growing season for some farmers in the state, but hot weather doesn’t even factor into it.

Indiana Farm Bureau Public Relations Director Lew Middleton says as energy costs have gone up worldwide, farmers have been among the hardest-hit groups of people.

Middleton says farming is one of the most energy-intensive professions in America, with gas used to fuel machines to plant, harvest and transport crops.
