Indiana Supreme Court upholds state's 18-hour waiting period

Last updated on Thursday, November 24, 2005

INDIANAPOLIS—Advocates for both sides are reacting to the Indiana Supreme Court upholding the state’s 18-hour waiting period for women getting abortions.

Planned Parenthood of Indiana President Betty Cockrum says she believes women who want abortions will still get them, but she says it's wrong to say they won't be burdened by the law. Indianapolis Senator Michael Young, who authored the law while a member of the Indiana House, says the 18-hour requirement didn't and doesn't require women to make two trips.
