Votto's Clutch Hit Leads Reds To Extra Inning Victory Over Cubs

Last updated on Wednesday, September 07, 2011

(CHICAGO, IN) - Joey Votto hit a go-ahead RBI double in the top of the 13th inning as the Cincinnati Reds got past the Chicago Cubs 4-2.

Reds starter Mike Leake was one out away from a complete-game shutout when pinch-hitter Bryan LaHair hammered a game-tying, two-run homer onto Sheffield Avenue to force extra innings.

Leake went nine innings, allowing two runs on three hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

The game remained tied until the top of the 13th when Votto's hit to the left centerfield wall scored Dave Sappelt from second base.

Votto would score two batters later on a single by Miguel Cairo.

Francisco Cordero pitched a perfect bottom of the 13th to get his 31st save.
