(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The NCAA has denied an appeal by former Indiana University men’s basketball coach Kelvin Sampson to reduce penalties levied against him for recruiting violations.

Sampson received a five-year "show cause" restriction last spring, which effectively makes him un-hirable by an NCAA member school for the term of the penalty.

Sampson resigned as IU head coach in February, 2008, accepting a 750-thousand-dollar buyout.

He is currently an assistant coach with the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks.
