Mathis Shines In Colts Victory
(CLEVELAND, OH) - The Indianapolis Colts picked up their fifth win in a row as they got past the Cleveland Browns 10-6 in Cleveland.
On a day where both teams' offenses had trouble moving the ball, the Colts defense made the key play of the game. In the fourth quarter, Dwight Freeney sacked Cleveland quarterback Derek Anderson, forcing a fumble. Robert Mathis picked up the fumble and ran 37 yards for the go-ahead touchdown, erasing a 6-3 browns lead.
On the injury front, the Colts defense took some more hits during the win. Defensive captain Gary Brackett was taken off the field on a cart early in the second quarter with an apparent leg injury.
Defensive tackle Keyunta Dawson also left the game with a leg injury and did not return. Freddy Keiaho, Brackett's replacement at middle linebacker, left the game briefly with an injury as did safety Matt Giordano, but both would return.
Cleveland also took a hit as Anderson suffered what appeared to be a serious leg injury when he was sacked by Mathis with just over a minute remaining in the game. Preliminary reports say Anderson damaged the MCL in his right knee and he will probably miss the remainder of the season.
The Colts improve to 8-and-4 and still control their own destiny in the AFC wild card race. The Browns fall to 4-and-8.
