Sampson Responds To IU Statement
(UNDATED) - One day after Indiana University revealed the contents of its response to a “failure to monitor” charge from the NCAA regarding the men’s basketball program, former head coach Kelvin Sampson issued a response denying the university’s allegations.
IU responded to the NCAA committee on infractions on Friday, saying that the charge was unwarranted because Sampson and former assistant Rob Senderoff concealed their impermissible phone calls from the university's compliance department. The school made the response public on Monday.
Sampson issued a statement Tuesday saying the he did not hide or withhold information from Indiana while denying that he had initiated any illegal phone calls to recruits while the head coach at IU.
Senderoff was fired before the start of the 2007-2008 season while Sampson's contract was bought out by the university last February.
Sampson is currently an assistant coach with the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA. Senderoff was hired by Kent State as associate head coach last April. Senderoff was an assistant with the Golden Flashes before joining Sampson's staff at Indiana in 2006.
