35 Minutes For Dome To Disappear
(INDIANAPOLIS) - In a span of 35 minutes the roof of the RCA Dome was deflated Wednesday.
Former Indianapolis mayor Bill Hudnut delivered the order to "let the air out of the Hoosier Dome", using the venue's original name.
As the fans that kept the roof inflated stopped, the 257-ton teflon roof fell from 200 feet to 50 feet above the stadium floor.
The deflation of the roof is the latest step in the eventual demolition of the 24-year-old building, which will make room for an expansion of the Indianapolis Convention Center.
It will take over a week for the roof to be removed, while the complete building will be brought down in December.
