(INDIANAPOLIS) - 13 of next season’s 18 IndyCar races will air on the Versus cable channel.

The Indy 500 has aired on Abc since 1964, and will again next year. But ESPN, which had been broadcasting the other races, will pick just four, with the rest going to Versus.

Versus is available in 20-million fewer homes, but plans more pre-and-post-race coverage, and more features showing the drivers' personal sides.

ESPN will work with the IndyCar Series to determine which races it will air. The network says it hopes to use the 500 as a promotional tool for races as close to that time as possible.

The deal with the three networks runs through 2018.
