Pacers' Williams "Thin Ice" Gets Thinner
(INDIANAPOLIS, IN) - The thin ice Shawne Williams is walking on got a little thinner after another friend from his hometown of Memphis was arrested while in the company of the third-year Indiana Pacers forward.
Darrell Smith Junior was arrested Friday night for possession of a small amount of marijuana while a passenger in a car driven by Williams. Williams received violations for the tint on the windows of the car and failure to wear his seat belt.
Pacers President Larry Bird said before last month's NBA Draft that Williams was on "very thin ice" following two other incidents involving Williams and friends of his from Memphis. One of those friends was wanted on murder charges in Memphis and was arrested outside Williams' home in February while driving a vehicle registered to the Pacers forward.
Bird released a statement on Sunday saying that while Williams was not arrested, the team was "extremely upset and hugely disappointed" that Williams had once again put himself in a compromising position.
