Catchings Named To US Olympic Team
(INDIANAPOLIS) - Indiana Fever forward Tamika Catchings was one of the final three players announced for the 2008 U.S. Olympic women’s basketball team.
USA Basketball announced on Thursday that Catchings, Kara Lawson, and Delisha Milton-Jones will round out the 12-player roster for the United States in next month's Olympic games in China. Nine players were previously announced for the team.
It is the second Olympic calling for Catchings, who was on the 2004 US team that won the gold. She also was a member of the 2002 US team that won the world championships and was included on the 1996 USA basketball team while she was still in high school.
Catchings is coming off of a torn achilles in September and is averaging 10 points and nearly five rebounds in 10 of Indiana's 18 games so far this season.
She's not the only fever player taking part in the Olympics. Fever point guard Tully Bevilaqua will play for her native Australia in next month's games.
